Shamika Singh (She/Her)

Art Therapist 🎨

Welcome, I am so glad you are here. I know taking the first steps in seeking therapy can be intimidating, and finding the right therapist can be challenging. I am here to help!

Are you feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, struggling with your self-esteem, or feeling out of touch with your feelings and emotions? Or you may have a child struggling with behavioural or social problems at school, struggling to fit in or make meaningful connections. This can be challenging to navigate on your own, and I understand seeking therapy can be daunting in itself.

Sometimes words can’t express all the feelings and emotions you are experiencing on the inside. Through art therapy, we can use various art materials to express your emotions and experiences that are difficult to articulate through words alone. No artistic ability is required - it’s about exploring new ways to access your emotions through the process of art-making.

My approach is client-centred and culturally sensitive, recognizing and respecting the unique backgrounds, experiences, and identities of each individual I work with. My approach focuses on creating a safe, judgement-free and welcoming space for all my clients to explore their feelings, emotions and narratives. Together we will collaborate on your therapeutic goals and I will use art directives to help guide you through the art-making process.

As a first-generation Canadian with Fijian heritage, I understand the emotional challenges of finding a balance between Western and Eastern philosophies of living and the impact it has on the body and mind. Whether navigating traditional values and modern lifestyles, managing family expectations, interpersonal relationships, or aspects of sexuality and gender identity, I’m here to support you.

As an art therapist, my areas of focus are working with children aged 5 and above, teenagers, youth, and adults, particularly from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities. With children, I utilize play-based and developmentally appropriate art techniques to help them communicate and process their feelings, navigate challenges, and develop coping skills. For teenagers and youth, I offer a supportive space where they can explore their identities, navigate peer relationships, address academic pressures, and cope with stressors unique to their age group. With adults, including BIPOC individuals, my practice emphasizes the exploration of cultural identity, intergenerational trauma, and resilience through artistic expression.

Let's create together. Explore your emotions through art. Reach out today for a journey of self-discovery and healing.
